I began teaching flute students when I was 20 years old, not long after graduating from Indiana University’s School of Music. From the very beginning, I discovered that teaching was more than passing along skills, it was a way to stretch and challenge my own abilities. Every lesson has pushed me to listen more deeply, think more creatively, and grow alongside my students. Over the years, this ongoing exchange has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life as a musician.
In the classroom, I have spent the last two decades guiding students from preschool through 8th grade. What began as a new adventure quickly became one of my greatest joys. Each day in the music room is an opportunity to spark curiosity, invite movement, and inspire confidence. Even after so many years, I still feel a sense of privilege walking into a classroom filled with eager, energetic young musicians. I fell in love with Charlottesville Day School and NEVER looked back. https://www.cvilledayschool.org/
Creative Music Room grew out of my desire to share that same spark with other teachers. With over 500 lessons, songs, and games, it is a place designed to support busy educators with resources that bring joy and ease into their classrooms. At its heart, Creative Music Room is an extension of my belief that teaching is both a craft and a calling, a way of building community, nurturing creativity, and planting seeds for a lifetime of music-making. https://creativemusicroom.com/
